The timer is located in the control panel at the top of your range. If this fails, the clock stops. The oven does not bake. You’re stuck.
Do not attempt to repair the internal mechanism yourself. It’s not worth the risk. remove the unit. Take it to a professional for testing. Or if you can, replace it entirely. This is how you pull out the timer.
Removing the control panel
Start at the back. You need to remove the service cover covering the control area. Find the spring clips. Release them. If there are screws, remove them.
Once the panel is loose, you will have access to it.
Extracting the Timer
Push the timer forward. It should slide out of its groove.
Now comes the wiring. Disconnect the electrical lead wires from the timer housing. Be careful. Notice where each wire goes. You will need that map later.
If you see burned terminals, stop. Clean them. Use fine steel wool. Buff the leads. Buff the terminal points. Burnt contacts lead to malfunctions. A good cleaning can save you from a replacement. It costs nothing but time.
Installation
When you change the device, buy a new timer of the same size. Same type. Same specs. Don’t guess.
Connect the new timer exactly the same way the old one was connected. Reverse the steps.
Reattach the control panel. Snap the clips back in. Or screw it tight.
Check the flame
While you’re at it, check the gas burners. The color of the flame tells the story. Blue is good. Yellow is bad.
The next section breaks down these colors. We tell you what to do when the flame lies.
